Naggar · Kullu Valley · Himachal Pradesh
Curious Cat Cottage is a quiet place to write or work in Naggar, Himachal Pradesh, 26 km from Manali at 1,760 metres. It offers desks in the Writer's Room and both Luxury Rooms, a reading library, a 100 Mbps connection, power backup, breakfast and long uninterrupted days — but no programme, facilitator or timetable. It suits writers, remote workers and solo travellers who bring their own project.
The cottage was not built as a retreat centre and does not run a programme. There are no scheduled sessions, no facilitator and no curriculum. What it offers is a set of spaces that make sustained work possible, in a village quiet enough that the days stay long.
Naggar sits at 1,760 metres on a ridge above the Beas river, 26 km from Manali. It was the capital of the Kullu kingdom, and the density of things worth looking at is unusual for a village this small — a 500-year-old castle, wooden Himalayan temples, and the estate where the Russian painter Nicholas Roerich spent the last two decades of his life, now an art gallery a short walk downhill.
That matters for creative work in a practical way: the walks are short, they are interesting, and you can take one in the middle of a working day without it becoming an expedition. Apple orchards and deodar forest start where the property ends.
If your work is a job rather than a personal project, the workation page covers desks, connectivity and calls in more detail. Rooms and current rates are on the booking page, and each room is shown on the homepage.
Getting here — 26 km from Manali, about 45 minutes by taxi. Buses run from Manali bus stand, and from Kullu 22 km south. Bhuntar is the nearest airport. Details on the near Manali page.
Check-in and check-out — check-in between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM, check-out by 12:00 noon.
Season — open year-round. Winter is cold with occasional snow and room heating; it is also the emptiest and the best for long working days.
Pets — welcome, with notice. See the pet-friendly page.
Background — the cottage was started in January 2026 by Paakhi A. Tyrewala, a filmmaker, and Kanishk Godha, previously a software engineer. The press kit has the full story.
No. There is no facilitator, no timetable and no curriculum. Curious Cat Cottage is a small guesthouse that provides quiet, a desk, WiFi, meals and a library, and leaves the structure to you.
If you want a guided retreat with scheduled sessions, this is not that.
The Writer's Room has a dedicated writing desk and forest-facing windows, and both Luxury Rooms have desks. The common lounge and the reading library are open through the day.
There is a 100 Mbps connection with WiFi throughout and power backup on site.
Guests working on a project generally stay a week or more. Two or three nights is enough to see Naggar but rarely enough to settle into work.
Rates and availability for longer stays are best discussed directly over WhatsApp.
