Naggar is everything Manali promised — Himalayan scenery, cool air, mountain trails — without the traffic, tourist traps, and overpriced hotels of Mall Road.
Manali is the name everyone knows, but most travellers who spend time in the Kullu Valley end up wishing they had based themselves somewhere quieter. Naggar is 26 km south — close enough to visit Manali, Solang Valley, or Rohtang in a day, far enough to sleep without traffic noise.
Naggar is 26 km from Manali on the left bank of the Beas River. The most scenic route follows the left-bank road (NH3 → left-bank diversion at Patlikuhal). By car or taxi, allow 45 minutes. Local HRTC buses run between Manali bus stand and Naggar roughly every two hours; the journey takes about an hour.
Shared taxis from Old Manali cost approximately ₹100–150 per seat to Naggar. Private taxis run around ₹600–800 for the trip.
Rohtang Pass — 51 km from Naggar (~1.5 hrs). Requires a permit booked in advance online. Best May–October.
Solang Valley — 37 km (~1 hr). Cable car, paragliding, and snow activities in season. Easy half-day trip.
Manali town and Old Manali — 26 km. The café lanes of Old Manali are worth an afternoon. Easy return day trip.
Kasol and Parvati Valley — 57 km south (~1.5 hrs). A full day out.
Hampta Pass — The trailhead is accessible from Naggar. A multi-day trek for the well-prepared.

HRTC buses run from Manali bus stand to Naggar approximately every two hours. The journey takes about an hour and costs around ₹50. Shared taxis are faster and cost ₹100–150 per seat.
Naggar sits at approximately 1,760 metres above sea level — lower than Manali town (2,050 m) and considerably lower than Rohtang Pass (3,978 m). Most visitors acclimatise without difficulty.
