A pet-friendly stay near Manali

Pets are welcome at Curious Cat Cottage, a five-room mountain stay in Naggar, 26 km from Manali at 1,760 metres. Walks start at the door through apple orchard and deodar forest, and the village has little through-traffic. Tell us about your animal before you book so we can put you in the right room — arrangements are agreed case by case.

The policy, plainly

Pets are welcome at Curious Cat Cottage. We ask you to tell us before you book rather than on arrival, so we can put you in a room that works for you and for the other guests staying that week.

Because the property is small — five private rooms and a shared dorm — the right room depends on who else is in the house. That is a conversation, not a form. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 99823 68018 with your dates and your animal, and we will confirm what we can offer.

Please note: specific arrangements — which rooms, any additional charge, and whether pets can be left unattended — are agreed case by case when you book. Ask us directly rather than assuming.

Why Naggar works for a dog

Naggar is a village on a ridge above the Beas river, 26 km from Manali at 1,760 metres. Practically, that means a few things if you are travelling with an animal.

Rooms

There are five private rooms — two Luxury, one Writer's and two Cosy — each with an en-suite bathroom, hot water and breakfast included, plus shared dorm beds.

Luxury Rooms — king bed and a private balcony over the valley. The most space, and a private outdoor area.
Cosy Rooms — a double bed with a mountain-facing window and a shared balcony.
Writer's Room — desk, rattan chair and forest-facing windows, for a quieter stay.
Dorm beds — shared sleeping space. Generally not the right choice if you are travelling with an animal, since you would be sharing the room with strangers.

Current rates and availability are on the booking page. All the rooms are shown on the homepage.

Who it is for, and who it may not suit

A good fit if you
  • Are driving up with a dog and want a base for several days
  • Want walks from the door instead of a drive to a trailhead
  • Are happy to check the details with us before booking
  • Want somewhere quieter than Manali town for a nervous animal
  • Are staying long enough for your animal to settle
Probably not for you if you
  • Need a fully fenced, escape-proof garden — the property is open to orchard and hillside
  • Expect pet beds, bowls, food or grooming to be provided
  • Need on-site veterinary care — the nearest vets are in Kullu or Manali
  • Want to leave an animal alone in the room while you go out for the day
  • Are booking a dorm bed

Practical notes

Getting here — 26 km from Manali, about 45 minutes by road, which is straightforward if you are driving with an animal. Kullu is 22 km and Bhuntar airport 28 km. Routes are set out on the near Manali page.

Check-in and check-out — check-in between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM, check-out by 12:00 noon.

Season — open year-round, with room heating in winter.

The village itself — what to see and do is on the Naggar page, and there is more about the property and its founders in the press kit.

If you want a quieter stay in general, the quiet stay page covers that, and the creative retreat page covers working here for a stretch.

Frequently asked questions

Are pets allowed at Curious Cat Cottage?

Yes, pets are welcome. We ask that you tell us before you book, not on arrival, so we can give you a room that suits you and the other guests staying that week.

Message +91 99823 68018 on WhatsApp with your dates and your animal.

Is there an extra charge for bringing a pet?

Arrangements including any additional charge are agreed when you book, because the property is small and it depends on the room and the dates. Ask us directly and we will tell you before you commit.

Which rooms can I bring a pet into?

That depends on who else is staying that week, so we confirm it at the time of booking rather than publishing a fixed list.

The private rooms are the practical options. Dorm beds are shared with other travellers, so they are generally not suitable.

Is there a fenced garden or somewhere safe off-lead?

No. The property is open to the surrounding orchard and hillside and is not enclosed, so an animal that will not recall reliably should be on a lead outdoors.

Are there good walks nearby?

Yes. Village lanes, apple orchards and deodar forest trails begin at the property. Naggar Castle is about a 20-minute walk uphill, the Roerich estate is a short walk downhill, and it is roughly half an hour down to the Beas river.

There is little through-traffic in the village, as the main Manali road bypasses it.

Is there a vet nearby?

Not in Naggar. The nearest veterinary services are in Kullu, 22 km south, and Manali, 26 km north. If your animal needs regular care, plan for that before you travel.

Can I leave my pet alone in the room?

Please do not assume so — ask us when you book. It is a small property and it depends on the animal and on who else is staying.
